It can warn you right away: Xiaomi has no intention of marketing in Europe. Exclusive to the Asian market, the Mix Fold 2 will therefore perhaps lack some success in our countries. And the success of this smartphone is quite frustrating. Xiaomi emphasized its tact during its presentation, and indeed, that’s what catches your attention the first time you see it. The Mix Fold 2 is extremely thin and, above all, very light for a folding smartphone, displaying an 8.02-inch surface when unfolded. It’s a big smartphone, but it’s nice to hold and comfortable to use. Next to it is a Galaxy Z Fold 4 that almost looks small. The thickness of 11.4 mm in the closed state and the almost no gap between the two parts of the plate is impressive.
The gold plating we have received has the most beautiful effect, reinforcing the necessarily premium aspect of the device. On the back, the integration of the photo island is well thought out, as it occupies the width of the phone. It doesn’t actually add much to the overall thickness; good point. The external display is large (6.5 inches), but again, unlike the Samsung model, it takes up the entire front surface. As it stands, the Mix Fold 2 can be used without the need to open it like Huawei’s Mate XS 2.
As for the hinge, it is very pleasant to handle. It holds the smartphone very well without being too durable. And best of all, it doesn’t mark the screen too much, even if the light conditions play in its favour. Here we have perhaps the least visible hinge of the current market.
The results of this quickstart are so positive that we can only regret that the Mix Fold 2 will not be available in Europe. However, questions such as autonomy remain unanswered. With such delicacy, it’s hard to imagine more than a full day’s use – just look at the results we achieved with Huawei’s model. As a result, here comes another product that you will be waiting patiently for a version that will shake Samsung’s hegemony in Europe and that will disappoint you.
