game news PlayStation: Has the PS4 been definitively abandoned in favor of the PS5? Sony’s response

The PlayStation 4 will soon be ten years old, and inevitably, you may wonder if the older generation is really about to pass the left-hand gun, as the PS5 has been there for two years. Spoiler: no, not yet.

PS4, valiant

We know this: A console’s life cycle is about six or seven years, then the next generation gradually comes forward to take its place.. In this good old PlayStation 4 example, it will soon be available for almost a decade with undeniable success: 117 million sales in the latest news, that’s what happened.

Now that the PlayStation 5 is about to blow out its second candle, then we have every right to wonder what the plans were for its predecessor and whether it should be abandoned. Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, said this on the microphone of Axios:

Hermen Hulst

We certainly don’t want to forget the millions of active gamers on PS4, and we want to make sure there are great games out there too. We evaluate this on a case-by-case basis.

Longevity due to famine?

We have to admit, with the years of scarcity that hit the PS5 hard, failing to sell as well as expected despite convincing results, the benefit of keeping the PS4 on hand is obvious: Sony could then continue to sell its games to an ultra-results park that the PS5 is still trying to expand.

We think it’s part of the reason why so many exclusive games remain cross-platform in 2022., Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 or very soon God of War Ragnarok. Similarly, Sony’s new PC expansion policy, which has recently started to recover seriously, could be hit by PS5 shortages and lack of revenue.

In short, If you have a PS4, you should get your money’s worth for a while. We’ll see what’s planned there for 2023.
