The rail company says it sold “more than 30 tickets per second” when it opened train ticket sales for the festive season.
The SNCF website has been taken by storm. To mark the opening of train ticket sales for the holiday season, the rail company sold “more than 30 tickets per second” on its website and app between 6am and 8am on Wednesday, “that’s the equivalent of 3 TGVs every minute”.
The “exceptional” crowds seen this morning on the SNCF website and the SNCF Connect app also caused some technical problems, with many customers reporting that they were unable to book a ticket. In fact, the operator claims to have recorded up to 100,000 connections per minute.
There are 9 million tickets available
A total of 9 million TGV, Ouigo and Intercités tickets are on offer between 11 December and 2 January 2023 (until 7 July for Ouigo tickets). This is one million more than last year.
The opening of train ticket sales for the Christmas holidays already excited the French last year, with one million tickets sold on the first day, 15% more than in 2019.
