The future nuggets of the sports economy gathered for three days in Font-Romeu

The sixth edition of the Sportup Summit Trophies takes place from Thursday at the Center for Sports Resources, Expertise and Performance in Font-Romeu.

Forty-eight hours to think about the sports business of tomorrow. The sixth edition of the Sportup Summit in Font-Romeu will start from Thursday to Saturday. This meeting, organized at the Center for Sports Resources, Expertise and Performance (CNEA), should allow the emergence of projects and start-ups related to the sports economy. Each year it is the opportunity for these project managers to introduce themselves but also to exchange information with a very wide panel of stakeholders in the sector to introduce, promote or refine their idea.

And this 2023, the prospect of the 2023 Rugby World Cup will be the red thread of the three days of this meeting, led by AD’OCC, the economic development agency of the Occitania region, which is now attracting applicants from all over France. “For 6 years, the Sportup Summit has become a major event in the sports economy sector and is now a lever for economic development for many players present: sponsors, experts, athletes, companies, start-ups and professional clubs, rejoices Nicolas Schaefer, managing director of the agency. This year, the 2023 Rugby World Cup will be the red thread of The Conversations, our conference cycle. Many national players will be on our side.”

Gain support and contacts

For this meeting, which is a true national competition dedicated to the sports economy sector, thirty candidates were selected in three different categories: creation, momentum and acceleration. Among them there are innovative ideas that are all related to the field of sports. Combined, there is in particular a digital platform that aims to help with power data analysis, a website that wants to bring together outdoor sports equipment maintenance services, a wheelchair project for different sports… With obviously a lot digital, but also a lot of ambition in terms of sports and health.

During the 48 hours of the competition, gathered in teams of four, the entrepreneurs will be coached by the experience of business leaders, as well as by paraprofessionals and top-level athletes. A team to train them before the deadline, Friday night, where each will have three minutes to convince the jury. The best will be selected for the final on Saturday, again at the end of the morning with a new performance to convince and stand out. Last year the three winners were Hooper, which presented technical prostheses for disabled athletes made from aeronautical waste, including carbon from Airbus plants, Neo-One, which proposed a solution to transform “every wall in a touch screen and interactive in the form of a video projector” and Billeon, an online sports, community and group ticket booking platform.

The winners receive a small financial donation, but above all support for creation and personalized development with AD’OCC Sport, but also visibility, networking and meetings with players in the sector.
