Hyundai Ioniq 6: more than 600 km of autonomy!

Unveiled in June 2022 and based on the Prophecy concept car, the Ioniq 6 inherits the group’s modular platform dedicated to E-GMP electricity and uses an 800V electrical architecture. Thus, with batteries of two different capacities (77.4 kWh and 53 kWh .hours) and two types of traction (rear-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive), Hyundai’s electrified sedan will be one of the most efficient general-purpose electric vehicles on the market. Indeed, the Ioniq 6 is able to achieve a range of up to 614 km according to the manufacturer’s WLTP cycle. Few electric models are currently able to offer such autonomy.

The Ioniq 6 takes full advantage of the E-GMP platform to offer the longest wheelbase in its segment (2.95m), which contributes to the comfort of living. First of all, it offers a fast charging capacity of 800V, which allows it to get up to 351 km of autonomy in 15 minutes and go from a charge level of 10 to 80% in about 18 minutes. The use of this platform also allowed the manufacturer to focus its efforts on aerodynamics, where significant work was carried out to reduce the coefficient of frontal drag.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 fuel efficiency range

The Ioniq 6 indeed boasts a coefficient of drag (Cd) of 0.21, the lowest in the Hyundai range and one of the best in the automotive industry. That’s better than the Tesla Model 3 (Cx 0.23) and only slightly worse than the Mercedes EQS (Cx 0.20). Let us remind you that Lightyear 0, which has not yet entered production and will become, according to the manufacturer, the most aerodynamic production car in the world with a record coefficient of frontal drag, is in the radius of records. 0.175.

This kind of aerodynamic work is not an engineering fad; Hyundai has worked on an active air shutter, wheel air curtains to minimize air flow, an integrated rear spoiler and wheel arch reducers. If the Ioniq 6 is one of the most streamlined sedans in the world, it first of all shows a consumption of 13.9 kWh/100 km with a 56 kWh battery configuration, two-wheel drive and 18-inch wheels, or 429 km .

Hyundai sends us this table of consumption and autonomy, which we in turn send to you.

FYI, this evening, October 5, 2022, the recruitment of Digital will take part in the official French presentation. We can’t wait to try and test the figures announced by the manufacturer.
