Crypto dad warning: guns can be rare in the crypto world. Mainly populated by clumsy “crypto bros” and the new rich, handsome guys can be hard to find there. But don’t worry, we fixed the problem.
Crypto Daddy #1: Craig Sellers
This cannon is a blockchain innovator and co-founder of Tether. Yes, Craig is the inventor of the stablecoin. Tether is the most traded cryptocurrency in the world, that’s right. Today, Craig Sellars is an unofficial advisor to the stablecoin since he moved in 2016. He claims to have invented the NFT in 2015 at vAtomic Systems, along with Eric Poulier.
He currently works as the Chief Technologist of Bitcoin’s Omni Layer. By the way, Craig has a degree in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology. And of course he can talk to me in code all day long.
Crypto Daddy #2: Eric Poulier
This charming gentleman says he invented NFT. He is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, author, columnist, technologist, public speaker, and founder of more than fifteen companies.
In 2015, Eric Poulier thought the world would benefit from the existence of NFTs. Thinking beyond art, he says he has “offered irreplaceable blockchain tokens that will come to life with 3D graphics, animations, sound and programmability. These NFTs will seamlessly move between augmented reality and virtual reality, change state based on external events, be redeemable and collectable, and help usher in the future of online participation and commerce.”
He named this first NFT concept “Vatom”, short for “virtual atom” (virtual atom). It was the first smart NFT. And can we talk for a second about that name, Vatom, which is still way sexier than the NFT name? Sexy… like Eric Poulier.
Eric has raised over a billion dollars for the companies he founded. Mr. Poulier, you’ll still have some chips for me, won’t you?
Crypto Daddy #3: Roger Ver
We gave him a nickname “Bitcoin Jesus”… and he is even slightly above the real Jesus. Roger is a bit of a conflicted character, which of course only adds to his sexiness factor. Mr. Ver invested early in Bitcoin and crypto-asset startups and became a true crypto evangelist. However, he now prefers to promote Bitcoin Cash because he believes that this altcoin meets the original purpose of the “Bitcoin White Paper”.
Roger is originally from Silicon Valley. When he was young he sold fireworks on eBay which gave him that seductive bad boy look… he even pleaded guilty to a crime related to his fireworks and spent 10 months behind bars before moving to Japan. He renounced his US citizenship in 2014 and now travels on a St. Kitts and Nevis passport. Roger Ver is also the CEO of Bitcoin.com. And as for my Bitcoin Daddy, the position is open, Roger.
Crypto Daddy #4: Arthur Hayes
And here’s another bad boy! Could this be a recurring theme? Come on, with hands like that, you’ll forgive us.
Arthur Hayes is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Known as a banker, entrepreneur and businessman, he co-founded BitMEX with Ben Dello and Samuel Reed.
Arthur first became interested in Bitcoin in 2013 after reading Satoshi Nakamoto’s white paper. He then co-founded BitMEX in 2014.
The BitMEX platform has been accused of engaging in illegal and reprehensible activities. In 2020, Hayes and his co-founders were indicted by the United States Department of Justice for operating illegally. BitMEX eventually agreed to pay a $100 million fine to settle the matter. For his part, Arthur was sentenced to two years of probation, after which he was placed under house arrest for six months. He should have let me know; I was going to visit him. Arthur is currently worth over a billion dollars. What else ??
Crypto Daddy #5: Lee Travers
Lee Travers is the CEO of Binance Australia. This salt and pepper executive has spent a lot of time in the digital asset industry. Prior to joining Binance Australia, Lee was a director of DigitalX Limited, the world’s first publicly traded blockchain technology company. Lee also has that Aussie accent about him, reminiscent of the coast of the Sydney area.
And yes, he can totally cover me with his crypto and tell me a thousand and one stories in his beautiful Australian accent.
And of course, if you want to add your own crypto dads to this list, feel free to tell us about them on Telegram!
