The government said it was thinking about it. On this Saturday, October 8, 2022, he described in detail the terms of payment a exceptional energy audit for some oil-heated householdsin the current conditions of the energy crisis.

Therefore, according to a Bercy press release, an energy check of between €100 and €200 will be sent “in the coming weeks to half of the households heated with oil, i.e. approximately 1.6 million households “.

There will be a charge for this exceptional energy audit from November 8, 2022.

Who will benefit?

The amount of that fuel check “will depend on the household’s income (calculated using 2020 income) and the number of people in the household,” Bursey elaborates, citing as an example:

  • 200 euros for a single person on the minimum wage who has at least one child
  • 100 euros per person with minimum wage without children
  • €100 for a single woman with 2 children earning around €3000 net per month

To see if you’re concerned, the government plans to put it online soon simulator “so that households can check their eligibility.”

This simulator will be available at the following address: https://chequeenergie.gouv.fr.

How do we get this check?

In order to “facilitate the payment of this benefit, energy check payment schemes will be used”, the government further clarifies. also:

  • This check will be sent automatically by the end of November to households that have already used an energy check to pay their fuel bills in the past;
  • other eligible households will be able to make their request at a special online counter that will be open from November 8. All you have to do is submit your fuel bill to receive next month’s allowance.

Bersi, however, clarifies that this fuel allowance “does not apply to already paid fuel bills”.

Can be combined with a regular energy audit

“However, concerned households should not wait for that energy check to be sent to fill up the fuel tank,” warns Bursey. Because that’s what makes this fuel voucher for 1.6 million households special: those households who are eligible and have already filled up their gas tank when they receive the voucher will not lose their benefit.

They will then be able to use that check “to pay, for example, their electricity bill or their next fuel bill until March 2024,” Bersi says. In addition, in this particular case, this fuel allowance can be used “to pay for all types of energy (gas, electricity, fuel oil, wood pellets, etc.).

It is also possible to ask fuel oil suppliers, depending on their financial capabilities, to distribute payments in several parts.

For most households, this fuel allowance will be in addition to a regular energy check, which will be sent to around 6 million households in the spring, and an exceptional energy check at the end of the year, which will be sent to 40% of households (12 million).

This fuel oil subsidy was tackled this summer in the Finance Amendment Act, where an envelope of €230m was allocated to “help the poorest families heating with fuel oil to pay their electricity bills”.
