A bug in Overwatch 2’s text chat causes random and accidental skin purchases in the store. These are in-game currency purchases and according to Blizzard these are non-refundable.

Announcement to the players Overwatch 2 : be very careful when discussing in writing Hero Gallery ! You can buy some skins by accident and snowstorm may not do anything for you.

a stupid bug

Reddit user Dracyoshi posted a long description of the error Overwatch sub-series. It seems that the game continues to record keyboard commands while users are chatting with text. Thus, people chatting with friends in the hero gallery can accidentally enter keys that cause them to purchase a skin.

Redditor Dracyoshi thus lost 300 Legacy Credits, which in itself is not dramatic, but we can see in the comments that some players lost much larger sums.

Posts about it were supposed to pop up on the Overwatch 2 “Bug Report” forum in May during the beta phase, however, they remained a priori unanswered.

Non-refundable purchases

After reporting the bug and requesting a refund from Blizzard developers, user Dracy received a disappointing response from a member of the Overwatch 2 team:

“[…] After checking, We are unable to offer refunds or compensation for unlocks made with in-game currency in Overwatch. All these releases (note: purchases) need to be final. If you think this error is caused by an in-game issue, please let us know in our forums if you haven’t already. I know this isn’t the answer you were hoping for […]”

For now, Be careful not to use the in-game chat in the Hero Gallery until fixed. I hope this bug doesn’t affect more people.
